Welding and metal fabrication covers most of the security and structural metalwork in Nigerian buildings: gates, burglary proof on windows, balcony and staircase railings, security doors, car port canopies, water tank stands and roof trusses.
The quality questions in this trade are mostly about material and finish rather than the welding itself. Ask what gauge of metal is being used — thinner sections are cheaper and noticeably weaker — and whether the finish is ordinary paint or a treated and primed coating, because untreated metalwork rusts quickly in coastal and high-humidity areas. Stainless and aluminium options cost more upfront and are often the cheaper choice over a decade.
Fabrication work is usually quoted per unit or per square metre, and installation may or may not be included. For gates, confirm whether the price covers hinges, locks, and any automation, since motorised gates are a separate specialism involving both the fabricator and an electrician.
Repairs are common too: re-welding a sagging gate, replacing corroded sections of burglary proof, and straightening or reinforcing damaged railings. The fabricators listed below have submitted their own listings and can be contacted directly.
