For most Nigerian households and small businesses, the generator is not a backup — it is a second primary power supply, and it is treated as essential infrastructure. That makes generator technicians one of the most regularly needed trades in the country.
The work splits fairly cleanly by machine size. Small petrol sets in the 0.65kVA to 3.5kVA range mostly need carburettor cleaning, spark plug and recoil replacement, and fuel system work after long periods of sitting idle. Larger petrol and diesel sets from 5kVA upwards bring in AVR faults, alternator problems, starter and battery issues, oil and filter servicing schedules, and exhaust or canopy repairs. Estate and office installations add automatic transfer switches and sound-proof housing.
Routine servicing is what actually determines how long a set lasts. Oil changes at the interval the manufacturer specifies, clean fuel, and a technician who checks the AVR and brushes rather than only the obvious fault will save far more than the service costs.
When you make contact, say the brand, the kVA rating, the fuel type, and what the machine is currently doing — cranking but not starting, starting but not holding load, or not cranking at all. Technicians listed below have submitted their own details.
