Electrical work in Nigeria carries an extra layer most other markets do not have: almost every building runs on more than one power source. A typical home switches between the grid, a generator and increasingly an inverter or solar bank, and a great deal of the fault-finding an electrician does comes down to changeover switches, poor earthing and overloaded circuits rather than the appliances themselves.
Common residential jobs include tracing a circuit that trips whenever a particular socket is used, rewiring older buildings where the cabling was never rated for today's air conditioners and pumping loads, installing or relocating distribution boards, fitting security lights, and wiring changeover switches so the generator and grid supply cannot ever be live at once.
Two things are worth checking before you hire. Ask whether the electrician has worked on installations of a similar size to yours — a three-bedroom flat and a small office block are genuinely different jobs. And be specific about symptoms: what trips, when it trips, and whether it happens on grid power, generator power, or both.
