About appliance repairs work in Nigeria

Appliance repair remains a genuinely economic choice in Nigeria in cases where replacement would be the default elsewhere, and a good technician can often extend the life of a machine by years for a fraction of the replacement cost.

The most frequently repaired items are washing machines — drain pump blockages, worn belts, faulty door locks and control board faults; microwaves, where magnetrons and door switches fail; gas and electric cookers, covering ignition, thermostat and element replacement; and televisions, where power supply boards and backlight strips are the usual culprits.

Voltage instability is a recurring underlying cause. Appliances repeatedly exposed to low or surging voltage fail earlier, and a technician who recommends a stabiliser after the second control board failure is giving you good advice rather than upselling.

Before contacting anyone, note the brand, model number if you can find it on the rating plate, and exactly what happens when you switch it on. Many technicians will give a rough indication over the phone from that alone, and it saves an unnecessary call-out. Also ask whether the quote covers diagnosis only or diagnosis plus repair, and what happens if the fault turns out not to be economically repairable. Technicians below submitted their own details.
